Welcome to Fall Term 2023 at Oregon State University!
I hope you had a wonderful summer and are settling in for the fall term at Oregon State University. I am delighted to share with you some of the amazing things that are happening this term.Â
First of all, did you know that October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month? This is a great opportunity for us to learn more about how to stay safe and secure online, especially in this digital age. Cybersecurity is not only important for our personal lives, but also for our professional lives as educators and researchers. That’s why University Information and Technology has partnered to create resources and events for you to learn more about cybersecurity and how to protect your data, your students, and your research. You can find more information about Cybersecurity Awareness Month here.Â
Secondly, are you ready for some football? I know I am! We are thrilled to kick off the Beavers football season in the newly remodeled Reser Stadium, which is a sight to behold. It has premium seats, stunning views, a full stadium concourse without barricades, and significant upgrades to concessions and dining experiences. You can now walk around the entire stadium, stop and get something to eat while watching the game from Beaver Street. The new west side also houses a state-of-the-art, interactive Student Welcome Center that will serve as a warm and inviting place for prospective new students and their families to learn more about Oregon State University. The welcome center will also serve game-day fans and other university visitors year-round by showcasing the amazing work that we do at OSU in teaching, research, discovery, and outreach. Additionally, the welcome center will offer conference and meeting facilities for use by faculty, staff and students. You can find more information about the Reser Stadium renovation here.Â
Thirdly, we are continuing our exploration of generative AI through the Higher Education Artificial Intelligence Taskforce (HEAT), which is a group of faculty, staff, and students from various colleges and units across campus who are passionate about learning about AI and sharing best practices. HEAT organizes regular forums, panel discussions, and workshops to provide opportunities for faculty and staff to engage with AI in their disciplines. You can find more information about HEAT here.Â
I am so excited for this term and I hope you are too. I look forward to seeing you at our events and hearing from you about your experiences with academic technologies. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or suggestions. Have a fantastic term!Â
