2019 Faculty Success Symposium

Want to learn about existing academic technology services, tools, and their use in teaching and learning? New Computers in General Purpose Classrooms

The general purpose classrooms have new computers. Details on the new computers will be available soon. Please note, Mac operating system will not be available on the new computers. If you use a Mac for your teaching, you will need to bring a laptop.

Tuesday Teaching and Tech Talks

All faculty, staff, advisors, scholars, and GTAs are invited to participate in Tuesday Teaching and Tech Talks, a certificated series of teaching workshops. Workshops are held every Tuesday in Milam 215 at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The first 90 minutes supports skill development in: planning curriculum, facilitating instruction, and assessing learning. Stay the final 20 minutes to learn about tech tools designed to support you in implementing your ideas. Participants may attend one, some, or all. No need to register, come on by.

Faculty Media Center

The Faculty Media Center empowers faculty and staff to create media for teaching, training and outreach activities. Founded on the ideas of media fluency and a do-it-yourself approach, we provide faculty and staff access to flexible, dynamic space populated with user-friendly media creation technologies and on-site consultation. There is no cost to access the service and support at Faculty Media Center.

The Flex Studio is our largest studio, consisting of 500 sq.feet of studio floor space.

The video Booth is a soundproof recording studio that can be used for both audio and video recording.

The Audio Booth is an exceptionally soundproof recording booth, perfect for recording voiceovers, interviews, podcasts or conference call interviews.

The editing suite is designed to support faculty and staff with access and orientation to editing software for video, audio, titles, screencasts and online course development.

Media Services

Do you need to connect your classroom to a remote location such as OSU Cascades or EOU? Is a guest speaker joining your class via video conference? Media Services offers staff and equipment for these unique situations at a reduced rate for courses. Contact us through our request form or call us at (541) 737-2121.

Student Multimedia Studio (SMS)

Student Multimedia Studio offers a complete set of media resources for all OSU students and staff. Stop in to explore our newly upgraded Open Studio, equipped with powerful computers and cutting-edge software for creating and editing your media projects. SMS upgraded our two smaller studios, and relocated them to the quieter first floor of the Valley Library. Visit the SMS website for more information.

Learning Platform Services

TOP HAT

Top Hat is our centrally-supported student response system. Top Hat Test is now part of an instructor’s Top Hat tool kit, and Top Hat has developed and released a new gradebook. Additionally, the Learning Platform Services team has created a Top Hat preterm checklist to help faculty get started.

KALTURA

Kaltura updates and highlights include new interactive video quiz features, caption editor updates, Kaltura video hot spot functionality, Kaltura user groups, instructor analytics for embedded Kaltura content in Canvas, and a new Zoom integration.

CANVAS

Canvas updates includes release of the New Gradebook, a Course Merge tool, a self-paced Canvas Academy for faculty to learn and practice core Canvas functionality, and finally Canvas is in the process of developing a New Quiz tool that will eventually replace the current Quizzes tool.

GRADESCOPE

Gradescope is a suite of tools designed to make grading of hand-written student work and computer coding assignments more consistent, fair, and efficient.
